At bed time my first impulse is to say quick prayers, sing short songs, give quick kisses, and then goodnight. We seem to be ready to hang up the "mommy and daddy" hats, and get to all the things that need to be done before we go to sleep. However, we have made a conscious effort to take our time and enjoy the twilight with Sam and Jack. It has become my favorite time of day. We switch who puts each one to bed, so the boys have one on one time at least a few minutes a day to talk, be silly, or just be quiet. It was my night with Jack, and his list of "thank yous" in his prayer just kept going and going. I am hardly the model of thankfulness in everything, but my littlest may be getting the main idea of thanking the Lord for everything in spite of my short comings. It was precious to hear his thankful and childish prayer in which nothing was off limits as he talked to Jesus. These are the ones I remember...... (a brief glossary: Sanku= thank you, efme= with me, brudder= brother)
Sanku my mommy. Sanku my daddy. Sanku my brudder. Is Sam. Sanku for trees. Sanku I got a cookie. Sanku I got fruit snacks at school. Sanku I no push friends. Sanku I push Isaiah at school (I'm hoping he meant "please help me NOT to push Isaiah at school). Sanku my boo boo. It get better. Sanku snuggle efme. Sanku I pee pee in the bath tub. Amen.
Out of the mouths of babes.........
